During his inaugural presidential address, Knight unveiled the theme for the 2024-25 Society Year: “Empowering Our Workforce: Building a Sustainable Future.” This theme emphasizes several critical aspects:
- Climate Change and Sustainability: ASHRAE recognizes the industry’s impact in addressing climate change and sustainable development. Knight highlighted the need for energy-efficient, healthy, and carbon-neutral buildings.
- Indoor Air Quality: The theme underscores the importance of indoor air quality, especially in light of recent global challenges.
- New Technologies: ASHRAE aims to stay at the forefront of emerging technologies in HVAC&R and Building Sciences.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Knight emphasized the role of ASHRAE in attracting and developing the next generation of diverse professionals. Greater diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential for industry growth and innovation.
In Knight’s words, “We need to highlight our industry in a way that celebrates the ideas and innovations that emerge when we embrace diversity and encourage inclusion.” His vision centers on a sustainable future where energy-efficient buildings play a crucial role.
